Associate Professor Yaxley is a past Chairman of the Northern Section of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand. A/Prof Yaxley has a urological practice which is sub-specialised to the treatment of prostate cancer. He has performed more than 3000 radical prostatectomy procedures (including over 1000 with robotic assisted laparoscopic techniques) and over 1000 prostate brachytherapy procedures.
A/Prof Yaxley has an active interest in prostate cancer research, with over 140 peer reviewed publications. He was a co-investigator in the randomised open versus robotic radical prostatectomy trial at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, published in the Lancet.
A/Prof Yaxley’s current interests include research into the role of focal therapy and also newer staging and diagnostics techniques for prostate cancer, including prostate MRI and PSMA PET/CT scans.
